About Carol

Let me tell you a little about me.

Yes, I have credentials – a master’s degree in counseling/psychology and years of experience in various agencies and institutions. I’ve worked with battered women, teens, high school students and mostly adults. I co-directed a counseling center, taught and led workshops in peer counseling, worked 25 years as a school counselor and maintained a private counseling practice off and on for many of those years.

My therapeutic approach has evolved as I learn and grow. It began with talk therapy and emotional release work and with the advent of energy psychology - I added other tools like EFT (tapping). I’ve been a practitioner of that wonderful technique for over 20 years.

Most important of all is that I’ve been working on myself. When I was 20 years old – a personal trauma sent me tumbling into profound grief which was my introduction to feelings and a career path I had never entertained before. I was a theater major in college. Psychology was not on my radar!

Fifty some years later, I have no regrets. Just gratitude for an interesting life and the realization that we are, all of us, all the time – “growing up”. It feels to me like a blessing and privilege to get to know people at a deep level and help them let go of feelings and beliefs that no longer serve them.

And yes - there were years when I wandered off the counseling career path and worked as a freelance clown and toured with a political theater company with our musical roadshow about the nuclear arms race. And most recently spent my summers rehabbing an old school house in northern Vermont which then operated as a B&B/bike hostel.

I’m a mother and grandmother, a poet, avid reader and passionate vegetable gardener.

So – I hope you get a little sense of who I am. I live in a small town in central NJ but work with people all around the country. With the advent of Covid- 19, most people transitioned to tele-med appointments and Zoom sessions, and lo and behold – it turns out to be just as good and a lot more convenient. Now, this is the only way I work.

If you would like to consider working with me – the first step is to send me an email at cbemmels@mac.com.

My fees are $75 per session (60 minutes) and package of 3 sessions for $200. These fees are not insurance reimbursable but they are set low for that reason.
